NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The La Salle field hockey team is set to take a two-game win streak into its third consecutive road contest at Rutgers on Wednesday, August 31 at 4 p.m. The game will stream live on B1G+.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is currently 2-0 on the season after recording a 4-1 victory over Bryant and 3-1 win over Merrimack over the weekend.
- The Explorers gave up an early goal against the Merrimack Warriors but Sol Espona found the equalizer before the end of the first quarter. La Salle sealed the deal in the final three minutes with back-to-back goals from Samie Hackman and Tatum Johnson for the 3-1 victory.
- Johnson leads the scoring effort for La Salle with seven points on three goals nad one assist through two games. The junior forward has rattled off 10 shots total with seven landing on net.
- Cat McFadden ranks second in points with three on one goal and one assist. Two of her three shots have landed on the cage in three games.
- Espona, Hackman and Sofia Pla have all tallied goals for La Salle thus far.
- Ryan Curley has played all 120 minutes in the cage and holds a 71.4% save percentage. She has only had two goals against her on eight shots faced and has totaled five saves in two games.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS:
- Rutgers enters the contest following hosting a season-opening tournament for the first time. In the "Battle on the Banks" Tournament the Scarlet Knights faced No. 18 Duke and No. 16 Saint Joseph's. Unfortunately, Rutgers couldn't pull out the win and enters the game at 0-2.
- Rachel Houston is the lone goal scorer for Rutgers finding the back of the net against Duke.
- Indy van Ek leads the Scarlet Knights in shots on goal percentage with four of her five shots landing on the cage.
- Sophia Howard recorded just her second and third career starts in the tournament. She gave up six goals on 30 shots faced while also tallying 13 saves.
