PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle field hockey team returns to Hank DeVincent Field on Friday, Sep. 23 for an Atlantic 10 matchup against VCU before making a short trip over to Villanova to take on the Wildcats on Sunday, Sep. 25.
The game against the Rams is set for 3 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ while the game at Villanova is set for 12 p.m. and will stream on FloSports.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle enters the contest at 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Explorers most recently dropped the contest against Temple on Sunday after heading into penalty shootouts to determine a winner against Lock Haven two days earlier.
- The Explorers struck first in the game against the Bald Eagles capitalizing on its third-straight corner in the second half with a goal from Cat McFadden. In the 56th minute Lock Haven scored the equalizer to send the game into double overtime. The Bald Eagles pulled ahead in the shootouts to take the victory.
- Tatum Johnson continues to serve as La Salle's leading scorer. She has recorded 13 points on a team-high five goals and three assists.
- McFadden has totaled two goals on the season along with Sol Espona and Sofia Pla.
- Paige Doyle, Samie Hackman and Peyton Tollaksen have each recorded a goal for La Salle this season.
- Pla has been an anchor for the defense this season and was voted La Salle's NovaCare Student-Athlete of the Week on 9/20.
- Ryan Curley has served as the only goalkeeper for the Explorers this season. She has a .750 save percentage and has made a total of 39 saves on 88 shots faced while only allowing 13 goals in eight games.
SCOUTING THE RAMS:
- VCU enters the contest at 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Rams sole conference loss came against No. 13 Saint Joseph's at home.
- VCU has yet to record a victory on the road this season dropping contests at No. 17 Delaware and William & Mary.
- The Rams enter the game following a 3-2 victory over Brown on Sunday. VCU trailed 2-0 at the end of the first half but scored three unanswered goals to knock down unbeaten Brown in overtime.
- Bridget McCormick and Litiana Field both lead the scoring effort for the Rams with three goals each. McCormick has added two assists on the season making her the team leader in points.
- Skyler Padgett leads the team in assists with three. She has also added two goals this season.
- The Rams have allowed just 10 goals this season while recording 15 of their own. They have outshot their opponents 76-61.
- Sheridan Messier has recorded 381 minutes in seven games for VCU. She has a .722 save percentage and has made 26 saves.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
- Villanova enters the contest at 5-2 overall. The Wildcats are undefeated, 4-0, at home.
- The team most recently defeating Saint Francis (Pa.) in a convincing 4-1 victory at home.
- As a team, the Wildcats have totaled 22 goals while holding their opponents to 15. They also have .592 shots on goal percentage.
- Anne Drabbe leads the team in points with 13 from a team-high nine assists and two goals.
- Amanda Middleman is the leading goal scorer for Villanova with six total this season. Meghan Mitchell follows close behind with four goals.
- Sabine de Ruijter and Hannah Barksy have each totaled one defensive save this season.
- Claire Borman and Emma Leppert have split time in the net. Borman has started and played in four games recording 166 minutes. She has made seven saves on 26 shots faced and has a .583 save percentage. Leppert has started three games and played in five totaling 253 minutes. She has made 28 saves on 55 shots faced and has a .778 save percentage.
