A High-Scoring Second Half leads to a 2-2 Draw against Lehigh

BENSELEM, P.a. – The La Salle men's soccer team fought back two times against Lehigh to tie the game at 1-1, and 2-2, giving them their second draw on the season.
 
The Explorers are now 1-1-2 in 2022.
 
How it Happened –
  • La Salle started the match off strong, getting early pressure on the Mountain Hawks goalie, as Omari Cotterell had the first shot of the game that sailed wide.
  • Lehigh ended the first half with a free kick in front of the net, but that shot was blocked by a swarm of Explorers to keep the score 0-0.
  • The scoring in the second half started early, as Jack Sarkos found the back of the net in the 49th minute to give Lehigh the lead.
  • Not soon after, Giammarco Rodio netted his second goal of the season in the 61st minute. The sophomore broke through a defender to then chip the ball over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net with the score now being 1-1.
  • A penalty kick was awarded to Jack Sarkos in the 64th minute, and he preceded to score his second goal of the night giving the Mountain Hawks the 2-1 lead.
  • A second yellow card in the 69th minute put the Explorers down a man for the rest of the match.
  • In the 72nd minute, Nigel Buckley scored his first goal of the year and helped tie the game at two, despite being down a player.
 
Inside the Numbers –
  • The teams combined for 29 shots total, 16 by La Salle and 13 by Lehigh.
  • La Salle led the night with five corner kicks, opposite to Lehigh's three.
  • Nigel Buckley scored his first goal on the year.
  • Giammarco Rodio is on a two-game scoring streak, scoring equalizing goals in back-to-back games.
