PHILADELPHIA —
Khalil Brantley scored 19 points, but the La Salle men's basketball team saw Antrell Charlton hit a jumper at the buzzer to help Fordham come away with a 66-64 win on Saturday in its Atlantic-10 game Tom Gola Arena at TruMark Financial Center.
With the loss, the Explorers dropped to 2-2 in A-10 play and 8-9 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Explorers jumped out to a 16-9 lead against the Rams in the first eight minutes of the game. Mamadou Doucoure was a big reason for the Explorers' hot start, scoring eight points and pulling down four rebounds during that stretch.
- But, the Rams went on a 17-1 run over the next five minutes to take a 26-17 lead. The Rams went on to take a 38-30 lead into halftime.
- In the second half, the Explorers managed to cut the deficit down to 40-37 by going on a 7-2 run to open the half. Jhamir Brickus jump-started the run with a three-pointer and Brantley scored the other four points on a pair of jumpers.
- From there, the Explorers grabbed a 58-55 lead with 6:46 left after Brantley hit a three from the top of the key.
- The Explorers and Rams went back and forth over the final minutes, but Fousseyni Drame tied the game at 64 with 14 seconds left after making a pair of free throws.
- Unfortunately, Charlton managed to hit the game-winning jumper on the other end to win the game for the Rams.
GAME NOTES
- Brantley's scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half. The sophomore guard, who also led the team with four assists, now has scored in double figures in 12 of 15 games this year.
- The Explorers also saw Brickus, Drame, and Anwar Gill score in double figures. Brickus finished with 12 points, 10 of which came in the second half, while Gill has 11 and Drame had 10, respectively.
- By scoring 12 points, Brickus now has posted double figures in scoring in five straight games and in eight of his last nine contests.
- Doucoure had his best game of the season for La Salle, posting season-bests in points (nine)nand rebounds (nine).
