Explorers Earn Seventh Straight Win Behind Gargiulo’s Two Goals

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – La Salle got its seventh straight victory in a 4-1 game over the Duquesne Dukes. Alyssa Gargiulo found the back of the net twice in the team's win.
 
The Explorers will return to action on Thursday, October 19th at 7 p.m. when they take on the Loyola Chicago Ramblers. The game will be in Philadelphia and streamed on ESPN+.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Explorer offense was able to control the start of the game and had continual possessions in front of the Duquesne defense. Three shots were taken by La Salle within the first 20 minutes of the half.
  • Ricshya Walker broke open the scoring in the contest with a header that found it's way past the Duquesne goalie in the 20th minute of the first half. Gabby Picco sent the free kick attempt towards the net and Walker headed it in.
  • Not long after, Haley Gschrey put La Salle up by two. In the 32nd minute she sent a shot from 20-yard out that was able to find it's way out of the goalie's reach into the top corner of the net.
  • The first half would remain scoreless as we went to the break with La Salle up by two.
  • The Explorer offense did not back off in the second half. The third goal by La Salle came from Alyssa Gargiulo. The corner kick attempt was headed out by the Explorers, calmed down by Gargiulo and then fired in with her left foot into the top corner of the net.
  • Duquesne added their first goal of the game in the 62nd minute on a scramble play right in front of the net. Emma Bundy punched the ball in to cut the La Salle lead to two goals.
  • Gargiulo was not done scoring and added a second goal to her stat sheet today. The senior sent in a centering shot from wide of the goal that was able to allude the goalie and make its way into the net for the 4-1 lead.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Gargiulo scored her season high in goals today with her two scores.
  • Gschrey is now the team-leader in goals scored with her one today and now has six on the year.
  • The Explorers totaled 15 shots in the contest, 12 of which were on goal. Gschrey lead La Salle with five shots taken.
  • Liv Vricella and Gabby Picco each recorded an assist in the game.
  • Michela Auguadro had two saves in the matchup.
