Men's Soccer Can't Find Scoring Touch in Loss to George Washington

PHILADELPHIA - Despite La Salle outshooting George Washington by a decisive 19-6 margin, a first-half goal by the Revolutionaries held up and gave the visitors a 1-0 win over the La Salle men's soccer team on Saturday night. The Explorers had a pair of attempts hit the crossbar and had a number of other golden opportunities but could not find the back of the net in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams played a fairly even first 30 minutes before a giveaway by the Explorers led to a chance for GW.
  • William Turner took advantage of the mistake, depositing a close-range shot into the right side of goal to give the Revolutionaries a 1-0 lead.
  • La Salle nearly knotted the contest over the final 15 minutes of the first half, as a pair of shots hit the crossbar.
  • The first came in the 42nd minute when Sean Yurgel's shot clanged off the woodwork and was swept away.
  • With time running down in the period, Kyrese Lynch-Bailey made a move up the left side with the ball eventually finding the head of Yurgel.
  • Yurgel's lunging header once again hit the crossbar, and a subsequent chance from close range went wide as time expired in the period.
  • The second half saw the Explorers dominate possession and outshoot GW, 13-3.
  • La Salle also had seven corner kicks, with one of them nearly catching the GW goalkeeper off guard before he tipped it over the crossbar for another corner.
  • Senior Justin Brunow had one last opportunity for the Explorers in the closing minute, but his shot from 15 yards out went wide.
