Brunow's Second-Half Goal Pushes La Salle to 1-1 Draw vs. Monmouth

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Justin Brunow knocked in his first goal of the season and the La Salle men's soccer team used an impressive second-half performance to earn a 1-1 draw with Monmouth on Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks controlled play for much of the first half, and had a decisive 10-3 shot advantage over the first 45 minutes of action.
  • In the ninth minute, Arturo McConnochie took advantage of a deflected pass and rifled a shot to the lower-left corner of goal to give Monmouth a 1-0 lead.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Filip Sabatti also played a key role in the first half, making a number of key saves that kept the margin at just one.
  • Over the final 10 minutes of the first half, the Explorers started to gain traction with possession and had two shots that slid wide.
  • In the 43rd minute, sophomore Americo Pereira came up huge with a defensive save at the back post on a shot by Erik Reis.
  • Sophomore Paolo Kampula started off the second stanza with a laser shot from the left side that required Monmouth goalie Eryk Dymora to make a diving save.
  • La Salle continued to apply pressure before the equalizer in the 64th minute, when Brunow punched home a chance from in close.
  • With the score knotted, the Explorers were relentless in pursuit of the go-ahead goal and had a prime chance over the final six minutes following a red card that was issued to a Monmouth player.
  • Sophomore Stian Vikse came within inches of giving La Salle the lead as his header clanged off the crossbar. Brunow also had a chance down the stretch but Dymora was up to the task.
