Men's Soccer Drops First Atlantic 10 Contest of Season

PHILADELPHIA - The Loyola Chicago men's soccer team scored a goal in the first half and two more in the second to come away with a 3-0 victory over La Salle on Wednesday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium. The Ramblers improve to 2-1-1 in Atlantic 10 play with the victory, while the Explorers drop to 1-1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Less than eight minutes into the match, John Gates put the visitors on the board with a goal from close range. The goal was Gates' third of the season.
  • The two teams went the remainder of the half without scoring, however the Ramblers controlled much of the play throughout.
  • Right out of the gates in the second stanza, Loyola Chicago found the scoring touch yet again when Ryan Van De Winkle one-timed a cross into the lower-left corner of goal to put the score at 2-0.
  • The final goal of the contest came in the 74th minute when goalkeeper Aidan Crawford sent a ball deep into La Salle territory. The kick found the foot of Jack McFeely, who turned and rifled a shot to the upper-right corner.
  • From there, La Salle's best chance came in the closing moments when freshman Kyrese Lynch-Bailey broke free down the left side. His chance was blocked by a defender and knocked out of bounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Loyola's stout defense allowed just that single shot by Lynch-Bailey, while the Ramblers were limited to just seven shots.
  • Sophomore Filip Sabatti closed with two saves for the Explorers.
  • La Salle did win the corner-kick battle, 6-3.
UP NEXT
  • The Explorers travel to the midwest to take on perennial Atlantic 10 contender Saint Louis on Saturday, October 7.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
