La Salle Set to Face Saint Joseph’s in Atlantic 10 Championship Semifinals

RICHMOND, Va. – The La Salle Explorers will take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks in the Atlantic 10 Conference Semifinals tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. in Richmond Virginia.
 
This is the first playoff game for the Explorers since 2011 after a historic season this year winning 13 games. The winner of this game will move onto the A-10 Championship game on Saturday at 12 p.m. and face the winner of VCU and Massachusetts.
 
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • La Salle enters tomorrow after finishing the season with a 13-5 overall record, 5-2 in conference. The Explorers most recently come off a 2-1 win over Providence in a shootout.
  • Saint Joseph's and La Salle met last Friday in a game the Hawks won 4-1. Julianna Smyth made her return to Hawk Hill and tallied the only goal for the Explorers.
  • In the previous matchup between the two schools, Dunja Hartsch was able to get off three shots, two on goal, for La Salle. She also assisted on the Smyth goal, sending in a shot that Smyth deflected into the back of the cage.
  • La Salle had seven penalty corner opportunities against the Hawks last Friday.
  • This marks the first postseason game between the Philadelphia rivals.
  • Clara Larripa is the Explorer's leading goal-scorer this season with 12 goals, and she will be looking to add to that total tomorrow morning.
  • Emily Streib has started 14 games in goal for La Salle in 2023, having a .713 save percentage up to this point.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:
  • Saint Joseph's last game was against La Salle only six days go.
  • Erika Culp scored twice in the Hawk win last Friday and has now reached seven goals this season as a freshman.
  • The standout performer for Saint Joseph's is Manu Ghigliotti. The senior had 11 goals, eight assists, and 30 points during the regular season.
  • Ghigliotti's offensive power has led her to be the top shot taker in the conference this season, and has put the most shots on goal (38). Her eight assists also lead the A-10.
  • Janelle Ward started all 18 games during the regular season for the Hawks and enters with a .684 save percentage. In last week's game she made two saves on five shots faced.
