The Explorers Fall in a Tight Bout to Lehigh

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – La Salle women's lacrosse lost to Lehigh 11-9 in an extremely close contest where seven different Explorers scored.
 
La Salle now drops to 0-4 on the young 2023 season. Lehigh shift to 4-1 overall.
 
How it Happened –
  • Lehigh opened the scoring with a goal by Katia Carnevale to take the 1-0 lead with 11 minutes left in the first period.
  • After another Mountain Hawk goal, a free position shot by Sara Grassi got La Salle on the board making the score 2-1. The Explorers were a man up at the time of this goal.
  • The first ended with a score of 3-1 Lehigh after Emma Eberhardt scored her second goal.
  • Maddie Henderson scored her fifth goal of the season at the beginning of the second period to put La Salle within one goal.
  • Soon later Lehigh scored to make it 4-2, but Claudia Steinmetz quickly responded with a goal of her own to bring La Salle back within one goal of the lead.
  • The equalizing goal came from Mackenzie Click with 6:49 left in the second period. Alana Lathan assisted on the play and the game sat at 4-4.
  • With three minutes left in the half the Mountain Hawks took an 8-4 lead, which was then combated with a goal by Alana Lathan to make it 8-5 Lehigh at halftime.
  • La Salle stormed back early in the third period with freshman, Molly Maloney, scoring her first collegiate goal to make it 8-6 Lehigh.
  • Alana Lathan added her second goal of the game to put La Salle within one with 12:34 left in the third. Ellen Stickney added her second assist of the year on this play.
  • Claudia Steinmetz tied the game at 8-8 with her second goal of the game. This was Steinmetz' third goal on the season.
  • Lehigh took a two-goal lead before the end of the third period and the game sat at 10-8 entering the last frame of the contest.
  •  Lehigh led 11-8 with 2:14 left, and Katie Johnson scored for La Salle to make it 11-9 heading into the final minute of play. Lola Quigley assisted on this man-up goal.
 
Inside the Numbers –
  • Seven different Explorers found the back of the net during today's contest.
  • Goalie, Julia Dellaratta, saved 17 shots on goal.
  • Alana Lathan led La Salle with five shots taken, four of which were on goal.
  • La Salle as a team led the way with 12 draw controls, four of which game from Grace Lord.
  • La Salle had five free-position shots and converted three of those to goals scored.

  • The Explorers will have a quick turnaround for a game this Saturday, March 4th at 2:00 p.m. against Mount St. Mary's down in Maryland.
