Four Explorers Have Multi-Goal Games, but La Salle Falls to George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Explorers lacrosse lost to George Mason 13-11 Saturday afternoon in their second A-10 Conference game of the season.
 
How it Happened –
  • La Salle got on the board early as Claudia Steinmetz scored first within the first two minutes.
  • Katie Johnson got the assist from Maddie Henderson to give La Salle the early 2-0 lead.
  • George Mason would then go on their own two goal run to tie things up with 11:01 left in the first.
  • Alana Lathan made her return to George Mason today and made her mark. Her first goal of the game came as she sped past three defenders and beat the goalie to give La Salle the lead at 3-2.
  • Mackenzie Click would then add to the Explorers total making it 4-2.
  • Steinmetz scored her second goal to make it 5-2 La Salle. She scored on a free-position shot while the Explorers were a man-down.
  • Lathan continued her strong showing at her former school scoring again in the second quarter to give La Salle the four-goal lead.
  • A free position shot from Henderson got La Salle up 7-2.
  • After a Mason goal, Henderson scored her second of the game off a pass from Ellen Stickney.
  • The Patriots would then go on a 4-0 run to end the half. Explorers would lead 8-7.
  • To start the second half Katie Johnson would get her second goal of the game to put La Salle back up by two.
  • Ellen Stickney would score for the Explorers with 8:46 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Mason would then storm back and take the lead of this game in the fourth quarter.
  • Liza Dellaratta would score in the final minute to give La Salle a final chance, but it was too late.
 
Inside the Numbers –
  • Four different Explorers scored two goals in today's game.
  • Lathan remains at the top of the leader board with 11 goals scored this season.
  • La Salle led in ground balls after securing 13 total.
  • The Explorers were 10-11 on clears.
  • Emily Varilla and Maya Rhymes each had two caused turnovers, leading the team.

  • La Salle will finish this road-trip next Wednesday, March 22nd at 2:00 p.m. as they take on the University of Massachusetts Minute Women.
