CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The La Salle women's rowing team heads across the Ben Franklin Bridge this weekend to compete in the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River.
The Explorers will race in the Varsity 8+, 2
nd Varsity 8+, and Varsity 4+ events on Saturday for a chance to advance to Sunday's finals.
The Knecht Cup will see more than 300 boats race from 52 teams across the nation in all three NCAA divisions.
"Knecht Cup is a critical opportunity for us to line up next to A-10 competitors Duquesne, Fordham, and Saint Joe's, as well as historically fast programs from across the country such as Boston University and Radcliffe (Harvard)," La Salle head coach Kelsey Franks said. "Each of our lineups will get two or three opportunities to race, so we are going to learn a lot this weekend as we bring our speed to a larger national stage. I've been extremely proud of the team's effort all week; they are locked in and ready for a weekend of busy racing."
The Explorers will look to improve upon their performance from last Saturday at the Murphy Cup, where they saw the Varsity 8+ place second in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+ Petite Final in 6:53.09.
In addition, the 2V8 finished third in its heat after it clocked a 6:53.33 and the Varsity 4+ finished fourth in its heat in 8:02.87.
Last year, the Explorers placed third in the Petite Final in both the Varsity 4+ and the 2V.
