CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The La Salle women's rowing team advanced all three of its boats to the Petite Finals of the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River.
The Explorers' Varsity 8+, 2
nd Varsity 8+, and Varsity 4+ boats posted fast enough times in their respective heats on Saturday to qualify for the Petite Finals, which will take place Sunday.
The Explorers' Varsity 8+, coxswained by
Marissa Paul, rebounded from a time of 7:20.34 for a fifth-place finish in the first heat of the day to post a 7:01.78 to place fourth in the semifinals and grab a spot in the Petite final. The Varsity 8+ Petite Final, which features the third- and fourth-place finishers from each of the three semifinal races in the event, will take place at 12:18 p.m. Sunday.
The Explorers' 2V8, coxed by
Arya Singh, reached the Petite Final for the second straight season after crossing the finish line in 7:17.70 to take third in the third semifinal race to advance. The 2V8 Petite Final, which features the third- and fourth-place finishers from each of the three heats in the event, will race at 10:58 a.m. Sunday.
The Explorers' Varsity 4+ crew, coxed by
Sam Ojeme, also advanced to the Petite final for the second straight year after clocking a time of 8:22.49 to take fourth in its heat. The Varsity 4+ Petite Final will take place at 9:06 a.m.
"Today was full of necessary lessons for the team," La Salle head coach Kelsey Franks said. "The Varsity 8 did a great job bouncing back in the semifinal after a tough performance in their heat. The 2nd Varsity 8 struggled with equipment issues, but their perseverance will only make them stronger from this experience. The Varsity 4 did a fantastic job in their heat posting faster times than Saint Joe's, Fordham, and Eastern Michigan. We look forward to leaning in towards each other, executing in the Petite Finals, and moving onwards and upwards with more wisdom as a team."
