CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The 23
rd-ranked La Salle men's rowing team saw its Varsity 8+, 2
nd Varsity 8+, and Women's Single boats place third in their respective finals at the Knecht Cup Regatta on Sunday on the Cooper River.
By getting three bronze medalists, the Explorers had multiple medalists for the second straight year after their Varsity 4+ and Freshman 4+ won gold medals in their respective events last season.
"Great day out on the river with tight racing across the board," La Salle head coach
Ivo Krakic said. "Every boat stepped up and rose to the challenge. We have learned a lot today and are taking that to next weekend. Very nice to see every athlete that raced today going home with a medal."
The Explorers' Varsity 8+, coxswained by
Trevor Fawcett, grabbed its bronze in the grand final after crossing the finish line in a time of 5:59.43. The Explorers finished behind MIT (5:56.27) and Drexel (5:58.79), respectively.
The Explorers' 2V8, coxed by
Elizabeth Boyle, placed third in its event after clocking a 5:59.87. The Explorers finished behind Drexel's "A" team (5:55.95) and Drexel's "B" boat (5:59.31), respectively.
In addition, the Explorers'
Emily Perry came away with a bronze in the Women's Single event after finishing in 9:26.02. The sophomore ended behind Bryn Mawr (8:59.12) and Dominican (9:02.85) in the final.
The Explorers will return to the Schuylkill River on Saturday when they compete in the Kerr Cup.
