PHILADELPHIA — The 23
rd-ranked La Salle men's rowing team saw its 2
nd Varsity 8+ boat capture a gold medal and its Varsity 8+ boat pick up a silver medal at the 56
th Kerr Cup on Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
The Explorers' 2
nd Varsity 8+, coxswained by
Elizabeth Boyle, claimed a gold medal for the program for the second straight year after crossing the finish line in a time of 6:43.3. The Explorers, which had its Varsity 4+ boat win gold last year, beat out Drexel's A team in the 2V8+ for first by almost nine seconds.
The Explorers' Varsity 8+, coxed by
Trevor Fawcett, garnered its runner-up finish by posting a time of 6:41.0. The Varsity 8+ also posted a time of 5:51.50 to win its heat.
"Great day at the river," La Salle head coach
Ivo Krakic said. "Our medal streak continues! Our 2V had a dominant performance, beating two Drexel boats that we lost too last weekend. Our V8 had a mixed day, winning the heat but falling behind Drexel in the final and finishing second. We have learned a lot and will take that into the next week of training."
The Explorers will return to action next Saturday when they compete in the Bergen Cup on the Schuylkill River.
