PHILADELPHIA — The La Salle men's rowing team begins its spring championship season on Saturday when it competes in the 40
th annual Murphy Cup hosted by Temple on the Schuylkill River.
Opening heats are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., with finals to follow at 12:30 p.m.
The Murphy Cup will feature the following teams: Cabrini, Colgate, Delaware, Drexel, Fordham, George Mason, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola, Monmouth, NY Maritime, Old Dominion, Penn, Robert Morris, St. Mary's (Md.), Susquehanna, Temple, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
The Explorers will look to build off their performance from last year, when they picked up a pair of gold medals. The Explorers' Varsity 4+ boat won last year's Men's Collegiate event in a time of 6:34.02, while their Novice 4+ boat claimed gold in its event in 6:29.43.
The Explorers also had two other Varsity 4+ boats make the finals in the collegiate event.
This year, the Explorers will have two boats compete in the Varsity 8+ and the 2V events.
