PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — The La Salle men's rowing team saw its nationally ranked Varsity 8+ boat earn a silver medal to highlight the program's three boats that placed in the top four of the Grand Finals at the Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday on the Cooper River.
The Varsity 8+, ranked 21
st in the nation, was the runner-up for the Richard O'Brien Trophy after crossing the finish line in a time of 5:43.29. The V8, coxswained by
Trevor Fawcett, was 2.03 seconds shy of catching Drexel for first place and becoming La Salle's first Dad Vail champion in the V8 since 1958.
Along with the V8, the Explorers' 2
nd Varsity 8+ and Women's Single boat finished fourth in their respective Grand Final races.
The 2
nd Varsity 8+, ranked 17
th in the country, earned a fourth-place finish in its race for the Ernie Bayer Trophy after clocking a time of 5:56.63. The 2V8, coxed by
Elizabeth Boyle, came close to catching MIT for third place, but MIT managed to cross the finish line 1.14 seconds ahead of it.
Emily Perry placed fourth in the Women's Open Collegiate Single final in a time of 9:16.80. The sophomore finished 25 seconds off third place.
The Explorers' 2
nd Varsity 4+ also competed on Saturday, finishing second in the Petite Final in 7:12.40. The 2V4, coxed by
Bobby Cuviello, was 8.62 seconds behind Vermont for first.
