NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The La Salle men's cross country team has been picked to finish in second place in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Explorers totaled 206 points in the poll, including three first-place votes. Loyola Chicago was selected as the top team in the conference after totaling 218 points, including 12 first-place votes. Following Loyola Chicago and La Salle were George Mason and George Mason, which tied for third. Saint Joseph's rounded out the top five teams.
La Salle, which was the only other A-10 team to receive a first-place vote in the poll, is coming off a 2022 season in which it placed second at the conference championship meet with 48 total points and finished with a total time of 2:01:47.80 in the 8K. With their runner-up finish, the Explorers placed in first or second in the championships every year dating back to 2018. In addition, the Explorers had three top-10 finishers in
Ibrahim Kedir (third in a time of 24:02.2),
MacCallum Rowe (fifth in 24:09.7), and
Taonga Mbambo (eighth in 24:17.6), respectively.
The Explorers will begin the 2023 season on Friday, Sept. 1 when they compete at the Temple Owl Invite in Ambler, Pa. The race will start at 6 p.m.
