WASHINGTON - The La Salle women's soccer team posted its first Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season on Thursday by topping George Washington, 3-0, at the GW-Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
With the victory, the Explorers improved to 1-1 in A-10 play and 3-5-2 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Explorers came out firing from the outset, as they took 13 shots in the first half.
- On their 11th shot, junior Haley Gschrey headed a ball into the left side of the net off a corner kick from Elizabeth Estrada to give the Explorers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
- In the second half, the Explorers continued to attack the Revolutionaries, as they attempted, taking three shots in the first 12 minutes.
- Then, the Explorers took a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute after senior Alyssa Gargiulo converted a penalty kick following a George Washington foul.
- From there, the Explorers fired off 13 more shots against the GW defense. On the 26th shot of the game, graduate student Emily Banashefski found the back of the net to put the match on ice for La Salle.
GAME NOTES
- The Explorers finished with 28 shots, 11 of which were on goal. Both of those statistics were season highs.
- Gschrey's goal marked her third score of the season. She leads the team in goals and game-winning goals (two) this year.
- With her assist on Gschrey's goal, Estrada now has four assists.
- With her second half goal, Banashefski now has two goals on the year.
- Gschrey, Estrada and Banashefski are now tied for the team lead in points with six apiece.
- Ricshya Walker took a career-high eight shots and a career-best five shots on goal.
- Goalie Michela Auguadro produced a clean sheet for the Explorers en route to earning her first win in net this season. The junior saved three shots on the day as well.
