La Salle & Rhode Island Battle to 0-0 Draw in Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Action

KINGSTON, R.I. - La Salle and Rhode Island suffered through sloppy conditions on Saturday evening, battling to a scoreless draw in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action. The tie moves the Explorers to 3-3-3 on the year and 0-0-2 in A-10 play, while the Rams stand at 2-3-3 (0-1-1 A-10).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams combined for just six shots on goal on the night, three by each side.
  • URI had a pair of attempts on frame in the opening 45 minutes, both of which were denied by sophomore goalkeeper Filip Sabatti.
  • La Salle's lone shot on goal in the first half came from sophomore Dylan Kwasnik but his shot was saved by Edu Rodriguez.
  • In the second stanza, Kwasnik had another attempt stopped by Rodriguez, as did classmate Evan Watt in the 73rd minute.
  • Rodrigo De Castro had the final shot of the match by URI in the 82nd minute, but his chance went high.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Rhode Island did have a decided advantage in corner kicks (12-2) and overall shots (14-4), but also had 23 fouls compared to La Salle's 13.
  • Sabatti finished with three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
  • The tie is the third of the season for the Explorers, who had four draws last year - one of which came against URI.

  • La Salle has a full week break before returning to McCarthy Stadium for an Atlantic 10 match against George Mason on Saturday, Sept. 30.
