HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Right out of the jump ball, Makayla Miller took over offensively. The guard corralled the opening tip, drove to the bucket and converted an and-one to give La Salle the 3-0 lead four seconds into the game.
  • The Rams, offense however, fired back and did not let the Explorers jump out to an even bigger lead. Timaya Lewis-Eutsey and Mykel Parham each had possessions to get VCU back on top.
  • Jolene Armendariz, however, sunk her first bucket of the game from deep to put La Salle back on top 6-4 early.
  • Although Lewis-Eutsey was able to find conversions offensively for the Rams, the La Salle defense kept the VCU season-leader in points, Sarah Te-Biasu, scoreless in the first half.
  • Throughout the second quarter both offenses exchanged blows, making for a close, competitive half. The end of the second, the Explorers pulled away for one of the bigger leads of the game thus far.
  • Molly Masciantonio took matters into her own hands on back-to-back possessions. A driving lay-up resulting in a VCU foul gave the guard a three-point play. The next possession Masciantonio went right back to it, driving to the bucket and putting La Salle up 28-24 at halftime.
  • The third quarter started quick for La Salle with Miller driving to the bucket to get La Salle up 30-24. The Rams, would not stay down for long, however.
  • Te-Biasu connected for her first points of the game, hitting a three-point shot bringing the Rams within three.
  • A pair of free throws for La Salle later, VCU hit the game-tying shot thanks to Te-Biasu. The guard hit from deep for a second time as the momentum shifted to the Rams. One possession later, Te-Biasu repeated her performance and hit from three again, putting VCU up three.
  • The remainder of the third quarter was a two-woman show by Te-Biasu and Lewis-Eutsey. The duo continued to be relentless offensively and helped bring the VCU lead to 13 by the end of the quarter.
  •  Tiara Bolden continued to fight for the Explorers driving to the basket, drawing fouls, and making free throws, ultimately it was not enough in the end.
