Women’s Soccer Falls to Duquesne

PHILADELPHIA – The Explorers and Dukes went at it in a physical battle for 90 minutes, but the Dukes came out on top earning the conference points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The teams came out of the gate with a lot of energy that transferred into the play.
  • La Salle tried to get the early goal, putting off four shots within the first ten minutes of play.
  • The Explorers defense remained strong throughout the first half, not allowing a shot until the 31st minute of the first half.
  • The physicality spilled into the second half as the teams saw the first card awarded, this one on the Dukes.
  • Not soon after, Duquesne was able to break the scoreless tie. Maya Matesa took the ball down the right sideline, and found Hailey Longwell in the box, who headed the ball passed the La Salle keeper.
  • The remainder of the game was a strong offensive push for La Salle. The Explorers got off five shots in the remaining time of the game, but to no avail.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The teams were even in shots, 13-13. La Salle had the edge in shots on goal 10-7.
  • Corner kicks were at a premium as only five of them were awarded in the game. Duquesne held the lead in that category 3-2.
  • The class of 2025 was well represented in shots for La Salle. Sunni DiElmo, Ricshya Walker, and Olivia Vricella led the team in shots with three each.
