Field Hockey to End Regular Season at #5 Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle field hockey will wrap up the 2024 regular season when they take on rival Saint Joseph's University. The Hawks enter the contest ranked 5th in the nation based on the NFHCA weekly poll. The Explorers sit at 9-9 overall this season and 1-5 in conference play.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The Explorers finished this past weekend at 1-1 after falling to VCU on Friday, but rebounding nicely against Rider winning 3-2.
  • Seniors stood out on Sunday as Laura McCann, Sofia Pla, and Zhao Rodrigo all were involved in scoring plays.
  • McCann broke the game open scoring the first goal, with Pla following. Rodrigo earned an assist on Pla's goal and the game-winning score.
  • Darian DeLeo scored her first collegiate goal and it was a massive one at that. The sophomore took in a pass from Rodrigo to send the Broncs home with the loss.
  • Pla is now the team leader in goals this season with four, with five Explorers sitting behind her with three goals on the year.
  • Abby Boggs has spent the majority of the season in the cage for La Salle. The sophomore enters tomorrow with a .759 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:
  • The #5 ranked Hawks come into the contest tomorrow with a 14-3 overall record, and a 5-1 in-conference record.
  • Saint Joseph's has gone 7-1 in the last eight games with their most recent game being an overtime loss to the Harvard Crimson.
  • The Hawks have played five ranked opponents this season and they have finished 4-1 in those contests.
  • Lily Santi and Manu Ghigliotti sit atop the scoring leaderboard for the Hawks. Santi has recorded 14 goals this season, and Ghigliotti has scored 10. Santi is tied with Luna Paratore for the leader in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
  • Marith Bijkerk has started 16 games for St. Joe's this season and enters tomorrow as one of the best goalies in the conference. She sits with a .659 save percentage on the year.
