Men's Soccer Suffers Close Loss to A-10 Rival George Mason

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team put forth a valiant effort against #20 nationally ranked George Mason, however it suffered a 2-1 loss to the visitors. La Salle had three shot attempts hit the crossbar, but none of them ended up as a goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  •  In the 20th minute, Colin Beasley landed a shot on the crossbar from a free kick attempt. The ball bounced down after hitting the woodwork, and the ref ruled that the ball did not cross the line.
  • Less than a minute later, Tobi Osoba head a header from a free kick that went just wide left.
  • The Explorers' defense held strong in the first half, preventing George Mason from having a shot on goal.
  • Four minutes after the second half started, George Mason converted on a PK attempt for the first goal of the game.
  • Nevin Baer had a header from inside the box that went on frame in the 58th minute that was saved by the George Mason keeper.
  • Drew Blackwell had a free-kick shot hit the underside of the crossbar 11 minutes late, which also bounced into the ground and away from goal. Kyrese Lynch-Bailey fired a shot on goal seconds later that was saved.
  • The Explorers got its equalizer in the 72nd minute. Nevin Baer sent a throw-in into the box that Leon Steffen got a head on, and the ball bounced over the whole crowd of George Mason players and into the net.
  • Osoba sent in a shot on goal in the 81st minute that was saved by the visiting goalie.
  • George Mason got its second goal two minutes later from a low cross that resulted in a tap-in finish.
  • Osoba had a shot from a tight angle get deflected and hit the top of the crossbar before going out of play in the 84th minute.
  • La Salle would have one final chance in the last seconds from a corner kick, but the ball could not be put on frame.
GAME NOTES
  • Steffen's goal in the 72nd minute was his first-ever in a La Salle uniform, and Nevin Baer's assist on the goal was also his first as a La Salle player.
  • Two players recorded three shots on goal.
  • La Salle outshot George Mason 17-13. The Explorers also had more shots on goal, with a five to three advantage.
