Explorers Fall to Virginia on the Road

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – La Salle women's basketball dropped a road contest to ACC member Virginia Sunday afternoon. Joan Quinn would score a career-high 16 points, while Aryss Macktoon would finish with 13 points, a season-high for the sophomore. The Explorers will return home to face the Rider Broncs on Wednesday night at 6:30 PM.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Explorers came out and matched all physicality that Virginia has from the tip. While points were hard to come by for both sides early, La Salle continued to attack the boards.
  • Aryss Macktoon knocked down the first bucket for the Explorers, a deep three that would give them the lead.
  • Ashleigh Connor along with Macktoon would combine for nine rebounds in the opening frame of the game. La Salle would find themselves down by five at the end of the first.
  • At one point down by ten points in the second, the Explorers would continue to fight back every step of the way. Joan Quinn would knock down a three, which was soon followed by a massive and-one for Jolene Armendariz.
  • At the end of the first 20 minutes of play Macktoon would have ten points, and the Explorers would have the edge in rebounds 25-22, eight of which coming from Connor.
  • The Hoos would come out of the break and take over on the offensive side of the floor. Kymora Johnson would be the difference maker in the third.
  • Johnson tallied ten points, and went 2-2 from three-point range to help the Cavaliers pull away from the Explorers. At the end of the third frame Virginia's lead would be up to 18 points.
  • Latasha Lattimore would be the factor in the fourth that would even greaten the Hoos' lead. The forward would add seven points in the final frame.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Joan Quinn would score a career-high 16 points in the contest today's contest, with Aryss Macktoon following her with 13 points.
  • Quinn would make her living today from beyond the arch. The freshman shot 3-8 from three-point range, which led the team.
  • The Explorers would be physical all game on the boards against a Virginia team that has a lot of size. The Cavaliers would have the edge in rebounds by one 46-45.
  • Ashleigh Connor set a career-high in boards today with 11 total, seven defensive and four offensive.
