HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Right from the jump the Explorer offense was playing fast and aggressive. Shay Magassa found the tip, drive down the court and laid it in for the early two points.
  • The Eagles, however, despite their record would immediately and continually respond to the Explorer offensive possessions. The back and forth first frame would end with La Salle leading 17-14 thanks to the successful free throw shooting from the Explorers.
  • The Blue & Gold would hold the lead into the first few minutes of the second, but the Eagles would not go away.
  • Bailey Garbee would hit a pull-up jump shot to give American the lead, and they would get that lead up to four points at one point.
  • Ty'Renisha Bowers, however, responded for La Salle. The transfer would knock down a deep uncontested three-point shot to put La Salle on top 32-31 with just over one minute left in the half.
  • Magassa would end the half like she started, driving to the bucket and making the shot, this time with a foul. The free throw would be converted and La Salle led 35-31 at halftime.
  • La Salle jumped out to a quick eight-point lead early on in the third quarter thanks to the consistent scoring from Aryss Macktoon.
  • Despite the Eagles coming back to tie the game at one point at 44 points, Macktoon would be the difference maker. The sophomore would break the tie and help extend the lead as she added on her 12th and 14th points of the game.
  • American would continually pressure the Explorer defense. The Eagles found themselves on top 49-48 just 30 seconds into the final frame, but Bowers broke the tie and put La Salle back up.
  • Another late comeback push from American was ousted by the La Salle offense and defense as the Explorers pulled away in the end to get the nine-point victory.
