HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Explorers came right out of the gate shooting, and knocking down three-point shots with ease, something they have struggled with recently.
  • Tiara Bolden, inserted into today's starting lineup, started off hot from beyond the arch, knocking down her first shot of the game.
  • A few possessions later, a turnover by the Spiders turned into La Salle points. Molly Masciantonio found Jolene Armendariz for an open three-point shot, Explorers were up 6-0.
  • The Spiders would get on the board with a three of their own, but Nicole Melious quickly nullified that conversion with a three-point shot for the Explorers, 9-3 La Salle.
  • Richmond's offense would then start to find their groove. The Spiders went on a 9-0 run to take the lead. Gabby Turco would score late in the quarter to get La Salle within one, but the Spiders would sink two free throws and go into the second with a 14-11 lead.
  • To start the second, Richmond scored five straight before Bolden would knock down her second three-point shot of the game. Masciantonio would follow that possession with her own three-point shooting, bringing La Salle within two.
  • From there, the Spiders took over on the offensive end. They would end the first outscoring the Explorers 18-4.
  • Coming into the second half, the Spider offense did not slow down. Three players throughout the third led the way for Richmond.
  • Grace Townsend, Siobhan Ryan, Rachel Ullstrom, and Maggie Doogan combined for 22 points in the third quarter alone.
  • Ullstrom continued to dominate throughout the fourth quarter, as well. The sophomore added five more points bringing her game total to 2o points, the leader for either team.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Against one of the best teams in the conference, the Explorer offense kicked back into gear after a stretch of tough offensive performances totaling 54 points.
  • The Explorers took 37 three-point shots tonight, converting on 13 of them. Nicole Melious led the charge from beyond the arch with four made shots. Tiara Bolden was one behind her with three of her own.
  • Three Explorers finished in double-digits tonight, Melious (12), Bolden (11), Masciantonio (10).
  • La Salle did not win the battle on the boards as they were out-rebounded 46-29.
  • The turnover battle between the teams did not differ much. La Salle only turned it over 15 times, compared to Richmon's 16.
