Women’s Lacrosse Dominate Howard 21-4

WASHINGTON, D.C. – La Salle women's lacrosse earned their biggest win since 2014 with a 21-4 win over the Howard Bison today. Five different Explorers scored multiple games in the win. La Salle goes to 2-2 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Within the first four minutes of the game Gina D'Angelo tallied her first two goals of the game, giving the Explorers an early lead.
  • Katie Johnson, the team's leading scorer, added two more goals by the time the nine-minute mark arrived in the first, La Salle led 4-0.
  • A trend in the first was continued by Ellen Stickney, as she added the next two goals for the Explorers to put them on top 6-0.
  • The seventh goal of the first was tallied by Melissa Hewitt, her second goal in as many games. Howard would tack on one goal before the end of the first, and we went to the second with La Salle up 7-1.
  • Goals eight and nine for La Salle came from Alana Lathan and Maddie Henderson, bringing the lead up to eight goals.
  • Stickney would tally a first half hat trick in the 11th minute of the second, and the score sat at 11-1.
  • Howard would go on their only multi-goal run in the next handful of minutes, scoring twice to cut into the large La Salle lead.
  • Lola Quigley would have a free-position opportunity with 3:02 remaining in the half, and she would convert for her first goal of the season. Johnson would add her own hat trick in the first half, bringing the score to 13-3 at the half.
  • Henderson and Stickney would add to their goal totals on the day to start the third, La Salle now leading 15-3 after they scored.
  • D'Angelo added the third hat trick on the day for La Salle, her first as an Explorer. The last goal from Howard would come from Gabrielle Nelson as the Explorers led 16-4.
  • Mia Riccitelli scored her first collegiate goal off a free-position attempt with 2:00 remaining in the third. Johnson would add her fourth goal of the game before the quarter expired.
  • Lathan would tally the 19th goal of the game for La Salle before Sam Klein scored her first goal of the season. Another first goal came from Jenna Pickard with 1:48 remaining in the game.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Today marks the highest goal total for La Salle this season. They beat FDU 19-10 in the opener.
  • The last time an Explorer team scored 21 goals in a game came back in 2017 when La Salle topped Duquesne 21-11.
  • Three Explorers had hat tricks in today's game: Katie Johnson, Ellen Stickney, and Gina D'Angelo.
  • 25 of the La Salle shots were on goal; the team took 26 shots in all.
  • Freshman Brooke Nelson made her first collegiate start today finishing with a .571 save percentage.
