HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The opening portion of the game was back-and-forth in its truest form. UMBC got the game's first goal, thanks to Grace Bruce, but it did not last long.
  • Maddie Henderson tied the game up at one just over a minute after UMBC scored. Katana Nelson added another one for UMBC, but again the Explorers responded shortly after, this goal coming from Alana Lathan.
  • From there, UMBC took over in the remainder of the opening quarter, scoring three unanswered goals, another one coming from Bruce.
  • The early stages of the second favored La Salle. The three unanswered goals from UMBC, were answered in the second. Henderson, Lathan, and Mackenzie Click tied the game at five in the short span of two minutes.
  • The rest of the half, however, was driven by Bruce. She added two more goals, along with another two from the rest of the team and had UMBC up 9-5 at halftime.
  • La Salle in the third quarter would go on a mini-run of goals, but it would end at that. Lathan added her third goal of the game in a woman-up situation to cut the UMBC lead to four.
  • Prior to the third expiring, Claudia Steinmetz would score to bring La Salle within three.
  • The final four goals of the game came from the Retrievers, bringing their lead up to 14-7 by the time the clocks hit zero.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Alana Lathan has secured herself as the team's second-highest goal-scorer with her hat trick against UMBC. Her total on the year is ten goals.
  • Maddie Henderson is not in a three-game scoring streak, after her two goals in the contest. She has scored two goals against Howard and UMBC in back-to-back games.
  • The Explorers as a team had difficulty on draw controls, only securing seven opposed to the UMBC 18.  Mackenzie Click led the team with three herself.
  • Brooke Nelson made her second start in net for La Salle and had nine saves.
