Women’s Lacrosse Drop Conference Match Up with St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA – Explorer lacrosse fell to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies Saturday afternoon 17-7. The team goes to 2-5 overall this year, 0-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • La Salle started off slow in today's game, allowing two goals within the first two minutes of the game. Fiona McGovern, whom had a big day, added her first goal in this stretch.
  • By the 2:02 mark in the first quarter, the Bonnies added four more goals, bringing them out to an early 6-0 lead.
  • Molly Maloney had the best opportunity to get the Explorers on the board in the first, and she converted, scoring on a free-position attempt.
  • In the early stages of the second quarter, La Salle added another goal, this time from Gina D'Angelo. Katie Johnson found D'Angelo in front of the net, and she put it home.
  • The La Salle scoring streak was ended with a Grace Hollenbeck goal for SBU. They now led 7-2 with 7:17 left in the half.
  • The Bonnies would add five more goals in the half, going to the break with an 11-2 lead.
  • After another two goals by SBU, Mackenzie Click was able to get on the board for La Salle, her ninth goal of the season.
  • Johnson and Maloney got their second points of the game as the clock expired in the third. Maloney assisted Johnson on the goal, bringing the score to 14-5 SBU.
  • Claudia Steinmetz scored another free-position attempt for La Salle in the fourth. Steinmetz would later assist on another Johnson goal with 2:54 remaining in the game.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Katie Johnson led La Salle in goals today, with two. This brings her season total to 18 goals.
  • Draw controls remained to be an issue for La Salle today, being out-controlled 18-10.
  • Mary Babbage spent a majority of time in net for La Salle, surrendering 11 goals, and saving three shots.
  • Brooke Nelson also entered in net for the Explorers, saving five shots while allowing six goals.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Explorers will return to action at home on Wednesday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m. against the Massachusetts Minutewomen. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
