HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Patriots opened scoring early in the first, but this was well responded by La Salle. The next three goals were scored by the Explorers thanks to Katie Johnson, Claudia Steinmetz, and Mackenzie Click.
  • Entering the second, the Explorers held a 3-2 lead, and built upon that lead in the early stages of the next quarter,
  • Click added her second goal of the game just 10 seconds into the quarter. She won the draw control, and stormed down the field for the unassisted score.
  • The next goal scored was again by Click. Her first half hat trick had the Explorers leading 5-2 with 9:58 remaining in the half.
  • Mason would then fire back two goals of their own, but La Salle would respond fittingly with two more goals. Johnson and Steinmetz each netted their second of the day in that stretch.
  • The Patriots came back late in the first half, cutting the La Salle lead to one goal having them up 7-6 at the break.
  • The first three goals of the third were scored by George Mason, giving them the lead with 2:38 remaining in the third (9-7).
  • Shannon Tuozzo was the catalyst for the comeback by Mason having five goals to this point in the game.
  • Johnson would break the scoreless streak for La Salle with 12 seconds remaining in the third, getting La Salle within one goal.
  • Dahlia Trippel and Tuozzo added the next two goals for Mason, adding to their lead and getting it up to three.
  • La Salle would continue to fight back, however, with Click and Johnson each adding another goal, again getting the Explorers within one.
  • Another Patriot goal was followed by Ellen Stickney's first goal of the game, but that was the last breath for La Salle as Mason would go on to score four more goals before the end of the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
