Women’s Soccer Hosts Stony Brook to Open Home Slate

PHILADELPHIA – After an impressive 2-1-1 start in four road games to begin the season, the La Salle women's soccer team will host the Stony Brook Seawolves to kick off the home portion of the 2024 campaign. This is the second straight opponent from the CAA the Explorers have faced, following their win over Delaware last weekend.
 
Admission to McCarthy Field is free to all fans. The game will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
  • After an early season defeat at the hands of reigning Patriot League Champion Bucknell, La Salle has been on a roll with a 2-0-1 record.  
  • The Explorers last took the pitch at Delaware, where they claimed a 4-2 victory. The contest featured three combined penalty kicks.
  • Kameron Rase became the first freshman to score twice in a game since the 2020-21 season. Haley Gschrey continued to dazzle, adding her third goal and second assist of the year.
  • Gschrey headlines a potent offense for La Salle. She is third in the league in both goals (3) and points (8).
  • The Explorers rank second in the Atlantic-10 in total goals (10) and third in goals per game (2.5). La Salle has also been moving the ball effectively, with its 11 assists tied for first in the conference.
  • Gabby Picco sits at the third in the league in assists, with three. Gschrey and Justyce Hollenbach also rank in the top ten.
  • The Explorers are led by head coach Paul Royal, who enters his 22nd season at the helm. Royal is one of the top coaches in the Atlantic 10, earning five trips to the NCAA Tournament during his tenure and has sent 16 players to the professional ranks. He was voted A-10 Coach of the Year for the fifth time last season.
  • Royal has amassed 213 wins in his head coaching career. He ranks 18th among active D1 coaches in wins at a single institution.
 
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
  • Stony Brook has impressed thus far in 2024. The Seawolves are ranked 9th in the United Soccer Coaches East Region poll. They have amassed a 2-0-1 record, with wins over Colgate and Fairleigh Dickinson and a tie at Big Ten foe Maryland.
  • The Seawolves were picked sixth out of 12 teams in the CAA Preseason poll. Reilly Rich and Linn Beck were recognized as All-CAA Preseason selections.
  • Gabrielle Cote is another player to watch, she has scored in all three games thus far in the season.
  • Tobi Bischof is in his sixth season leading the program. He has a 42-32-14 record has as a head coach.
