Men's Soccer Closes Homestand with Win Against Lafayette

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team ended its three-game homestand with a 3-1 victory over the Lafayette Leopards. Colin Beasley got two goals, and Andoni Garrogerricaechebarria recorded a goal and an assist in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second straight game, goalie Randy Burkhardt was tested early, making a close range save from a Lafayette attempt in the fifth minute.
  • In the 10th minute, Sean Yurgel had a shot low that was stopped by the Lafayette keeper.
  • 27 minutes later, Michael Chiha had a blast from well outside the box that forced a quick reaction save from Lafayette's goalie.
  • The next minute provided the opening goal of the game. Alexandru Zama sent a low cross in across the eight-yard box for Garrogerricaechebarria to tap in to give La Salle the lead.
  • After half, La Salle had a few shots in the early moments of the second half, including a chance by Drew Blackwell.
  • In the 50th minute, La Sall got their second goal. Garrogerricaechebarria sent a through ball in to Beasley who slotted it past the goalie on a 1v1 chance to put the Explorers up two.
  • Five minutes later, Lafayette hit the woodwork and scored on a rebound, only for the offsides flag to disallow it.
  • Beasley made it 3-0 in the 67th minute when he took advantage of a goalie mistake and shot on an open net from a tight angle to get his brace.
  • Lafayette quickly countered with a goal in the 70th minute with a similar setup to La Salle's first goal of the game.
  • A minute later, Burkhardt made a save to his right to keep it a two-goal game.
  • Giammarco Rodio had a chance saved by the Lafayette goalie three minutes later, and the Explorers saw the rest of the game out to make the 3-1 score final.
GAME NOTES
  • Beasley (2G) and Garrogerricaechebarria (1G, 1A) became the first Explorers this season to get a multi-point game.
  • It was the first game since last year's 2-1 win against George Mason on Sept. 30 that two La Salle players recorded a multi-point game.
  • Five Explorers recorded at least two shots.
  • Burkhardt made three saves in his second start this season.
