Women’s Soccer Season Rolls on with Davidson

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's soccer team plays its second consecutive home contest on Thursday evening as the Explorers host the Davidson Wildcats. The game will stream on ESPN+. Admission to McCarthy Stadium is free for all fans.

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
  • La Salle rebounded from a tough loss at Rhode Island to open conference play with a 1-1 draw against Saint Joseph's on Sunday. Haley Gschrey netted the score for La Salle.
  • The Explorers are right in the mix with the top teams in the conference, holding an overall winning percentage of .650.
  • The Explorers are tied for fourth in the Atlantic-10 in goals (20) and goals per game (2.0). La Salle has also been moving the ball effectively, with its 21 assists ranking third in the conference.
  • Gschrey is tied for fifth in the Atlantic-10 in goals (6). Ricshya Walker also checks in the top ten, with her five tied for seventh.
  • Gschrey and Justyce Hollenbach are tied for the team lead in assists (4) and are fourth in the conference in the category.
  • The Explorers are led by head coach Paul Royal, who enters his 22nd season at the helm. Royal is one of the top coaches in the Atlantic 10, earning five trips to the NCAA Tournament during his tenure and has sent 16 players to the professional ranks. He was voted A-10 Coach of the Year for the fifth time last season.
  • Royal has amassed 216 wins in his head coaching career. He ranks 18th among active D1 coaches in wins at a single institution.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
  • Davidson is 4-4-2 on the season. After an impressive 4-1-2 start, the Wildcats have dropped their last three games. They are yet to score against an A-10 foe.
  • Maddie Moody is tied for seventh in the A-10 with five goals. SJ Pak and Sophia Whiddon are tied for the team lead in assists with three each.
  • Riley Piechnick is in her first season guiding the Wildcats. She is familiar with the region, having spent her last six years as an assistant on the Bucknell staff.
