Late Goal Gives La Salle First Win of Season

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team scored a dramatic goal in the 81st minute to get its first win of the season. Andrew Rosenbaum's tally was enough to get a 1-0 victory over the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • There were few chances for both teams in the opening 15 minutes, besides a 12th minute shot by Dylan Kwasnik that was smothered by the Mount St. Mary's keeper.
  • The Explorers kept firing shots in the first half, but nothing went on frame.
  • La Salle keeper Tino Kneis made two saves in the opening half to keep it scoreless entering the half, stopping a shot in the fifth minute and another shot in the 40th minute.
  • The home team came out firing, with a shot by Michael Chiha on goal in the 49th minute that was saved by the opposing goalie.
  • Tino Kneis made another save in the 70th minute to keep the game tied.
  • In the 81st minute, the Explorers found its game-winning goal. After a cross by Kyrese Lynch-Bailey, Andoni Garrogerricaechebarria sent a volley into the box that Rosenbaum got a head on. Rosenbaum's header escaped the goalie's grasp as it went into the far-right corner of the net for the deciding goal.
  • Despite leading late, La Salle kept pressing to get a second goal, with shots on goal in the 82nd and 83rd minutes, but both were saved.
  • Tino Kneis made one last more stop in the 85th minute, and the Explorers finished the game victorious for the first time this season.
GAME NOTES
  • Rosenbaum's goal was his first-ever tally in an Explorers uniform.
  • Lynch-Bailey's assist was his second of the season.
  • La Salle held a significant advantage in total shots, with 21 shots compared to Mount St. Mary's.
  • Kneis made four saves in his third match for the Explorers this season.
