Amherst, MA – The La Salle women's basketball team outscored Massachusetts in the second half, but it wasn't enough, as the Explorers fell 82-66 in front of 2,898 fans at the Mullins Center on Wednesday morning.
How It Happened:
- A three by freshman Joan Quinn and a layup by junior Ayisse Magassa gave the Explorers a 5-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest.
- The Minutewomen answered with a 17-0 run to take the lead and outscored the Explorers 28-18 throughout the first quarter.
- UMass outscored La Salle 23-10 in the second quarter to take a commanding halftime lead.
- The Explorers fought back in the second half, scoring 19 points apiece and holding the Minutewomen to 17 and 14 points, respectively, throughout the third and fourth quarter.
- Redshirt sophomore Ashleigh Connor delivered the play of the day offensively for the Explorers with time winding down in the third quarter, as she hit a deep three from just across midcourt at the buzzer to cut into the deficit.
- La Salle connected on 7-14 (50%) of field goal attempts in the fourth quarter, but UMass prevailed for the victory.
Inside The Numbers:
- Connor and Quinn led the Explorers with 13 points apiece, while graduate student Mackenzie Daleba added 12 points.
- Connor grabbed a team-high nine rebounds on the day.
- This marks La Salle's first loss of the season when scoring 65 or more points.
