Washington, D.C. — La Salle women's soccer broke open the deadlock in the second half, securing a 5-1 win over George Washington on Saturday afternoon at the GW Soccer Field. With the win, the Explorers improved to 6-5-2 overall (3-2-1 A-10), while the Revolutionaries dropped to 4-7-3 (1-5 A-10).
La Salle jumped ahead early when senior forward Justyce Hollenbach found the back of the net in the 8th minute off an assist from junior defender Rylee Henson. George Washington answered in the 26th minute through Elizabeth Cruz, leveling the score at 1-1.
The Explorers dominated the second half, erupting for four unanswered goals. Sophomore forward Alexis Garcia recorded a second-half hat trick, scoring in the 50th minute, and twice in the 55th minute, with assists coming from Hollenbach, freshman midfielder Anna Corsanico, freshman forward Kayden Williams. Sophomore forward Kameron Rase capped the scoring in the 58th minute, assisted by Garcia.
Senior goalie Mackenna Yaracs tallied five saves in the win, while La Salle outshot George Washington 16-10 overall and 9-6 on goal.
The Explorers return home next week to face Fordham on Thursday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium at 6:00 pm. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
