Women's Basketball Rallies In Fourth But Falls Short Against Villanova, 66-54

Philadelphia, PA -  The La Salle women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season Tuesday night, falling 66-54 to Villanova at John E. Glaser Arena. The Explorers are now 5-2 on the year as they prepare to begin conference play.

After a slow start that saw La Salle trail by double digits early, the Explorers regrouped and mounted a determined comeback in the second half. La Salle matched Villanova in the third quarter, then gained momentum in the fourth behind a surge from redshirt junior Ashleigh Connor. Connor's traditional three-point play midway through the final period pulled the Explorers within two possessions. The Explorers continued to attack the paint and force stops, but time ran out on the rally as Villanova held on in the closing minutes.

Connor led the way for La Salle with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in 39 minutes. Redshirt freshman Kiara Williams contributed 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting, tying her career high for field goals made and notching her fourth double-digit scoring game of the season. Defensively, junior Aryss Macktoon added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals before fouling out.

Despite ultimately falling short, the Explorers outscored Villanova 32-26 in the paint and held their own on the boards. The comeback effort was fueled by pressure defense and timely baskets down the stretch. As a team, La Salle finished with 23 turnovers, which Villanova converted into 29 points.

Several individual milestones were achieved during the contest. Connor surpassed 200 career rebounds while Macktoon recorded her 100th career steal. Williams set a career high with 11 field goal attempts and matched her best mark for field goals made.

La Salle returns to John E. Glaser Arena to open conference play against VCU on Wednesday, December 3, at 6:30 PM.
