Men's Basketball Drops Cathedral Classic Opener to Hofstra, 63-58

Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle men's basketball team dropped a close 63-58 decision to Hofstra in the Cathedral Classic opener Friday afternoon at The Palestra.

Redshirt junior Jerome Brewer, Jr. led the Explorers with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench. Junior Eric Acker added nine points and a game-high six assists, while graduate student Jaeden Marshall contributed eight points and went 4-4 from the free-throw line. Graduate student Justin Archer tied for the team lead with six rebounds and chipped in seven points. Graduate student Noah Collier made his highly anticipated season debut for La Salle, adding four points and three rebounds.

La Salle trailed 34-30 at halftime but battled throughout the second half, tying the game at 56-56 on a layup by Brewer, Jr. with less than two minutes remaining. Hofstra reclaimed the lead with two free throws from Biggie Patterson, then sealed the win when Preston Edmead hit a three-pointer with 46 seconds left. The Explorers continued to fight until the final horn, but were unable to overcome the late deficit.

La Salle dominated the paint for a 34-16 scoring advantage and enjoyed a 23-3 edge in bench points. The Explorers collected 12 offensive rebounds for 13 second-chance points.

La Salle continues Cathedral Classic play on Saturday against Penn at The Palestra, with tip-off scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
