Men’s Basketball Earns Hard-Fought 73-60 Win Over Monmouth On Homecoming

Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle men's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 73-60 win over Monmouth on Saturday at John E. Glaser Arena. The win marks La Salle's sixth straight victory on homecoming.

Graduate student Jaeden Marshall led the Explorers with 26 points, including 12-12 accuracy from the free throw line, with fellow graduate student Josiah Harris adding 11 points and nine rebounds. In his first career start, freshman point guard Ashton Walker dished out a team-high nine assists.

With the game knotted up at 35-35, Marshall beat the first half buzzer with a three to put the Explorers up 38-35 at the midway mark.

Both teams went back and forth to start the second half. In a one-point game with under six minutes to play, a three by senior Damon Strand and consecutive baskets by Marshall and graduate student Jerome Brewer Jr. gave La Salle a 58-50 lead with 4:32 to play.

After the Hawks scored the next three points, back-to-back buckets by Marshall and a three by Brewer gave the Blue and Gold their first double-digit lead of the game at 64-53 with 2:39 to play, as the Explorers sealed the win late.

La Salle held a 43-35 edge on the glass and attempted 28 free throws throughout the contest while holding the Hawks to 8-29 (27.6%) from the field in the second half.

The Explorers will open Big 5 play on Tuesday at Temple, with tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
