Women's Basketball Erases Early Deficit To Defeat UMES

Princess Anne, MD - The La Salle women's basketball team erased a double-digit first-quarter deficit and completed a gritty comeback, defeating UMES 63–58 on Sunday afternoon at the Hytche Center. Four Explorers scored in double figures as La Salle improved to 7–3 on the season with the road victory.

The Explorers endured a slow start, managing just five points in the opening quarter as UMES jumped out to an 18–5 lead. La Salle responded with urgency in the second period, pouting in 22 points to pull within three at halftime, trailing 30–27.

La Salle carried that momentum into the second half, continuing to chip away in a tightly contested third quarter. The Explorers seized their first lead midway through the period on a three-pointer from senior Ivona Miljanic and leaned on balanced scoring and defensive stops to swing the game in their favor heading into the fourth.

Miljanic and redshirt junior Ashleigh Connor led La Salle with 14 points apiece, while Aryss Macktoon added 13 points and six rebounds in her second Maryland homecoming of the season. Redshirt freshman Kiara Williams rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points and filled the stat sheet with three steals and three blocks.

Defensively, La Salle recorded 10 blocks, their most in a game since February 4, 2018 at UMass. After scoring just five points in the opening quarter, the Explorers outscored UMES 58–40 over the final three periods, showcasing their resilience.

La Salle will continue their east coast road trip on Wednesday at Delaware. The game will begin at 11:00 AM, as the Explorers will participate in their second school day game of the season. Last year, the Explorers scored a 68-54 win over the Blue Hens, led by a then-career high 21 points from Ashleigh Connor.
