Philadelphia, PA - La Salle women's basketball redshirt freshman Kiara Williams was named Rookie of the Week, the Big 5 announced Monday, following a standout performance that helped propel the Explorers to a come-from-behind road victory over UMES.
Williams played a pivotal role in La Salle's comeback win, scoring 11 points while making her impact felt on both ends of the floor. She added three steals and three blocks, providing timely defensive stops and energy as the Explorers erased a 17-5 first quarter deficit to win their 7th game of the season.
Williams transferred to La Salle following a reshirt season at Pitt. In ten games this year, the redshirt freshman ranks fourth on the team in scoring (9.1) and third in rebounds (4.3) and assists (1.9). Her three steals and blocks at UMES each represent career high marks.
La Salle will return to action later this week as the Explorers continue their road trip at Delaware, before returning home to host Mississippi State.
