Men's Basketball Earns Hard-Fought 69-64 Win Over Drexel in Big 5 Classic

Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle men's basketball team earned a gritty 69-64 victory over Drexel in the Toyota Big 5 Classic at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday. The Explorers built a commanding 19-point halftime lead, then held off a late Dragons surge to improve their record to 4-6.

Graduate student Josiah Harris delivered a career night with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting, a season-high 13 rebounds and his second consecutive double-double. Graduate student Jaeden Marshall added 15 points, including four crucial free throws in the closing seconds, while junior Eric Acker contributed 10 points.

The Explorers exploded out of the gates, shooting 64 percent in the first half and dominating the paint to open up a 41-22 halftime advantage. Harris set the tone early, scoring efficiently around the rim and helping La Salle control the tempo. Late in the first half, a layup by Edwin Daniel and an assist from freshman Ashton Walker pushed the lead to its largest margin at 19 points.

Drexel stormed back in the second half, trimming the deficit to just three with seconds remaining after a late three-pointer. Marshall calmly knocked down four straight free throws in the final eight seconds to secure the win, capping a relentless defensive stand as La Salle withstood Drexel's 42-point second-half rally. Harris's dominance inside and Marshall's poise at the line were decisive in the closing moments.

La Salle shot 47.3 percent from the field while outscoring Drexel 38-30 in the paint, thanks largely to Harris's interior work. Despite being out-rebounded 44-37 and allowing 21 offensive boards, the Explorers' efficient offense and timely defensive stops proved the difference.

Next up, La Salle travels to Brooklyn to face LIU on Saturday, Dec. 13, with tip-off set for 4 p.m.
