PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's lacrosse team fell to Lafayette at McCarthy Stadium Wednesday afternoon, losing 10-9 in its season home opener. Despite a four-goal effort by
Katie Johnson, the visiting Leopards came back from a two-goal deficit late for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Katie Johnson scored La Salle's first goal of the game once again, making it 1-0 with 7:33 left in the first quarter.
- Right after Lafayette's equalizer, Johnson got her second a minute later to help the Explorers retake the lead.
- Johnson got her third with 10 seconds left in the quarter, putting La Salle up once again to 3-2.
- Lafayette immediately responded in the second quarter to tie it at three, then scored two more within the first six minutes of the quarter to go up two.
- Down a man with 7:38 left in the half, Johnson scored her fourth to trim the deficit to one.
- 1:25 later, junior Emi Waldron tied the game with her first goal of the game.
- After half, Lafayette went back up with a goal with 12:14 left in the third quarter.
- Sophomore Kate Licciardi scored on a free position shot exactly five minutes later.
- Redshirt junior Alana Lathan got a free position goal of her own with 3:39 left in the third. Two minutes later, she assisted on junior Molly Maloney's goal to put the Explorers up 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
- Within the first four minutes of the last quarter, Lafayette got two more goals. In between those two goals was Waldron's tally with 12:24 left.
- The Leopards tied it at nine with 5:52 left, then got the go-ahead goal 48 seconds later.
- Johnson's last gasp shot for the Explorers went wide, and the Leopards saw out the rest of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- With Johnson's four goals and Waldron's two goals, both players lead the team in goals this season with six.
- The Explorers successfully cleared the ball 15 times out of 16 attempts.
- Junior Mary Babbage made 12 saves in the game. It was the fourth game in her last five games played she made that many saves.
