Bowers' Career Game Not Enough As Women's Basketball Falls To St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team fell short against St. Bonaventure on Saturday, losing 48-41 despite a career performance from junior Ty'Renisha Bowers.

Bowers, a Natchez, LA native, set new Division I career highs with 14 points and 37 minutes in her first start since January 11 at Dayton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • None other than Bowers got the scoring started for the Explorers with a mid-range jump shot assisted by junior Ayisse Magassa.
  • Sophomore Aryss Macktoon converted on the only other La Salle field goal in the first quarter as the Explorers trailed 9-4 heading into the second.
  • The Blue and Gold came out strong in the second period with an 11-0 run powered by four different players. Freshman Joan Quinn tied her career high with four steals in the first half, helping La Salle take a 15-11 lead into halftime.
  • Dani Haskell of the Bonnies would be the only player to score in the final four minutes of the first half as La Salle led 15-11 at the conclusion of the first half.
  • Bowers and freshman Sania Jenkins each cashed in on three-pointers to open the second half, extending the Explorers' lead to 21-12 with 7 minutes remaining in the third.
  • The Bonnies responded with a run of their own, closing the gap to 29-28 by the end of the third. La Salle struggled with turnovers late in the quarter, giving the ball away four times in the final five minutes.
  • Despite two fourth-quarter threes from Jolene Armenderiz, the Bonnies' late surge proved too much, as the Explorers fell 48-41 in their penultimate home regular season game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bowers posted new Division I career highs with 14 points and 37 minutes.
  • Quinn tied her career-high in steals with four in the first half. The freshman currently ranks third on the team in steals this season.
  • Macktoon grabbed seven rebounds, her most since returning from injury on February 8. She also added three steals, maintaining her spot as the team's steals leader despite missing over a third of the season.
