Lacrosse Starts 2025 Season with Decisive Win

DOVER, Del. – The La Salle women's lacrosse team won its opening game of the 2025 season Saturday afternoon, defeating Delaware State by a score of 15-4. Thanks to a high scoring second quarter for the Blue and Gold, the squad entered the half on a 9-0 run en route to the decisive win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Katie Johnson scored La Salle's first goal of the season 2:16 into the first quarter to get the opening score.
  • After giving up two Hornets goals, junior transfer Emi Waldron got her first goal of the game with 7:28 left in the first to tie it at 2.
  • Redshirt junior Alana Lathan put the Explorers up again about three minutes later with her shot.
  • Senior Ellen Stickney was La Salle's fourth goal scorer of the game, as her tally with 1:34 left in the first put them up 2.
  • The Explorers dominated the second quarter, scoring six goals in the frame while allowing zero. Stickney's free position shot went in for a goal to make it 5-2 with 12:37 left in the half.
  • Sophomore Kate Licciardi made it 6-2 two minutes later, before Johnson got her second with 9:19 to go.
  • Lathan scored while the team was undermanned on a breakaway to make it 8-2, before Waldron got two more to achieve a hat trick with 4:57 left in the half.
  • Junior Molly Maloney added to the scoreboard right after the half to make it 11-2.
  • After a goal by the hosts, sophomore Mia Riccitelli made it 12-3 with 4:29 left in the third.
  • Freshman Auria Mullins got her first goal of the season early in the fourth quarter, giving La Salle a 13-3 lead.
  • Waldron notched her fourth goal of the game with 9:57 left to make it 14-3.
  • The hosts got one back, but junior Sam Klein got the final goal of the game with 1:16 left to secure the final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • In her first game in a La Salle uniform, Waldron set a collegiate career high for most goals (4) and points (5) in a game.
  • Three other players – Stickney, Lathan, and Johnson – recorded two goals in the game. It was the first game since Feb. 28 of last season where four athletes scored at least two goals.
  • Mary Babbage made seven saves in the game, her tenth straight game making at least seven saves.

  • La Salle lacrosse will have its first home game this Wednesday against Lafayette after 6 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
