STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The La Salle University women's soccer team fell 2-1 in the first road contest of the season to the Stony Brook Seawolves on Sunday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
The Seawolves jumped out early, striking in the 13th minute when Taylor Steinagel converted a chance to make it 1-0. Stony Brook doubled its lead in the 55th minute as Hannah Maracina finished from close range.
La Salle climbed back into the match in the 76th minute when senior forward Justyce Hollenbach buried her second goal in as many games to cut the deficit in half. The Explorers pressed late, earning six second-half corner kicks and outshooting the Seawolves 7-5 in the second, but could not find the equalizer.
La Salle goalkeeper Mackenna Yaracs registered six saves in the loss, while Stony Brook's Jona Hennings made three stops to secure the win.
La Salle returns to action on Thursday with another trip to New York, this time heading upstate to face the Cornell Big Red. The game will stream on ESPN+.
