ITHACA, N.Y. – The La Salle University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road to Cornell on Thursday evening at Berman Field. It was the second of a five game road stretch.
The Big Red netted the only goal of the match in the 28th minute when Mariana Kessinger capitalized on a failed clearance inside the box, slotting home a right-footed one-touch finish to give the hosts the lead.
La Salle generated a handful of chances in the opening half, with senior forward Justyce Hollenbach putting two shots on target and Nadia Guzman adding another, but all three were turned aside by Cornell goalkeeper Samantha Qureshey. The Explorers were held without a shot in the second half despite pressing forward in search of the equalizer.
Goalkeeper Mackenna Yaracs made three saves to keep La Salle within striking distance, while Qureshey stopped all three first-half attempts to secure the clean sheet.
La Salle (1-3) returns to action next Sunday when it travels to face another Ivy League opponent, Columbia.
