LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The La Salle men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against Rider Friday evening at Ben Cohen Field. Trailing in the final minutes, Tobi Osoba buried a close range shot to secure a point for the visitors.
The Explorers jumped in front midway through the first half when midfielder Drew Blackwell converted from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute to make it 1-0.
The Broncs responded quickly, leveling the score in the 28th minute on a strike from Gio Polizzi, off an assist by Xavi Csato. Rider then grabbed the lead just before halftime as Theo de Silva finished off a feed from Drew Heil in the 43rd minute to give the hosts a 2-1 advantage heading into the break.
Down a goal, La Salle would go up a man late when Rider's Luke Kirilenko received his second yellow in the 83rd minute.
La Salle continued to push and then found the equalizer in the 86th minute. Osoba netted his first goal of the season, finishing a sequence set up by Mikey Chiha and Pedro Amadou to bring the Explorers level at 2-2.
The contest was physical throughout, featuring 39 combined fouls and 11 cards.
La Salle held a 17-10 edge in total shots, while Rider placed six attempts on frame compared to five for the Explorers. La Salle netminder Tino Kneis collected four saves in the draw.
The Explorers continue its road trip next week, playing Mount St. Mary's next Friday at 6 pm.
