Philadelphia, PA – The La Salle men's soccer team dropped a tight 2-1 decision to Monmouth on Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium. With the result, the Explorers fell to 1-2-4 on the season, while the Hawks improved to 3-3-1.
Monmouth struck first in the 28th minute when Patrick Osiecki converted off an assist from Jakob Friedman to give the visitors a 1-0 edge heading into halftime. Friedman then doubled the lead in the 66th minute with his first goal of the season, as his intended cross ended up finding the back of the net
The Explorers answered immediately, as sophomore attacker Sean Yurgel found the back of the net just 19 seconds later, finishing off a cross from sophomore midfielder Itzak Sandoval to cut the deficit to 2-1. Despite a flurry of chances late, La Salle was unable to find the equalizer.
La Salle outshot Monmouth 24-10 and earned a commanding 17-8 advantage in corner kicks. Hawks goalkeeper Herman Seierstad Johnsen stood tall with six saves, while La Salle's Tino Kneis finished the night with two goals allowed on 10 shots faced.
The Explorers will return to action Saturday when they will face Saint Joseph's in their conference opener at McCarthy Stadium. The game will start at 7 pm and will stream on ESPN+.
